Storyland amusement park in New Orleans, Louisiana has a rich and colorful history that dates back to its opening in 1956. The park was originally built as part of the larger New Orleans City Park, which was established in 1853 and is one of the oldest urban parks in the United States.
Storyland was the brainchild of a group of dedicated members of the New Orleans Recreation Department who wanted to create a whimsical and educational destination for children. The park was designed with the intention of bringing classic fairy tales and children’s stories to life, giving young visitors an immersive experience unlike any other.
When Storyland first opened its gates, it featured six themed areas that showcased various tales, including Cinderella, Snow White, Peter Pan, and Jack and the Beanstalk. Children could climb aboard Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage, explore the seven dwarfs’ cottage, or venture into Captain Hook’s pirate ship.

In the 1960s, a Mother Goose-themed area was added, featuring nursery rhymes like Humpty Dumpty and Little Miss Muffet. In the 1980s, a Pinocchio area was built, complete with a large whale and a Pinocchio playhouse.
